The 17th century Fort George stands guard over the Moray Firth and was built after the battle of Culloden. Cawdor Castle, home of Macbeth was built is 14th century and is home to the Thanes of Cawdor.

As well as the historical attractions the area around Inverness has some breathtaking scenery, like Glens of Affric, Glencoe, Glenfinnan and Strath Glass. Glen Affric is one of the largest surviving native Pinewoods in the UK. For the whiskey connoisseur there are numerous distilleries nearby that have visitor centres.
